Junior year is finally here! As your student begins their 11th grad year, we've compiled a list of advice, activities, and resources to help them make the most of the pivotal academic year ahead.

AtomicMind's September Guide for 11th Graders

  • Refine Academic Goals: Your student has made it halfway through high school. They've taken a range of courses, following their academic inquiries, and explored new extracurriculars. The beginning of Junior year is a perfect time for students to reflect on what they've accomplished, and to reevaluate their academic/professional interests and goals. What college majors are they curious about? How can they continue to pursue their interests in and out of school?
  • Identify Areas for Support: Especially for students with an AP and Honors-heavy course load, getting support early is crucial for academic success. If students foresee needing support in particular courses, please reach out to AtomicMind to pair your student with a Subject Specialist.
  • Find Leadership Opportunities: Extracurriculars are an important part of your student's growing resume - especially as a Junior. 11th grade is a great time for your student to pursue leadership opportunities in school, sport, and community spaces. If your student has identified a specific interest or passion, they should pursue it with intention. Aside from personal development, colleges deeply value extended commitment to academic, professional, and extracurricular endeavors.
  • Build and Maintain Relationships with Teachers: Developing strong relationships with teachers during Junior year can prove invaluable in the future. Encourage your students to attend our office hours and develop relationships with their teachers. This is crucial for enhancing a student's learning, but will also be significant when applying to college.
  • Get Creative: With the help of our support team, many of our AtomicMind students have started clubs, published research, or started non-profit organizations. If your student has an interest that excites them, but no place to pursue it, our team can help them create that space. This is so crucial, that we've provided more information for you and your student below:
