AtomicMind 8th Graders: October Highlights
Eighth graders are about halfway through their first quarter, which means exam time will soon be underway. Whetehr your student is preparing for a Chem test or their English midterm, AtomicMind has compiled some test taking itps to prepare your student for success.
Test-Taking Strategies:
- Start Early and Review Regularly: Studying doesn't just begin when the test is scheduled. At AtomicMind, we recommend studying in small doses as the unit progresses, even spending 15-20 minutes every other day to review new information or identify areas of confusion. This can go a long way towards building confidence and comfortability with the material.
- Create a Study Schedule: Help your student avoid last minute cramming by encouraging them to build a study plan. For support building a study plan that works for your student, please reach out to AtomicMind to connect with a Head Advisor.
- Get Help Early: As students begin to take exams and complete significant assignments, it is vital they get support early, especially in areas of difficulty. AtomicMind's team of subject tutors is ready to help your students excel this school year.
- Study Tools: Using online tools like flashcards or educational videos can be helpful to support your student's study process. Quizlet, Khan Academy, or Kahoot can be great resources to make test prep more engaging and active.
- Study the Material - and the Test: As students immerse in new classes with new teachers, it's important they get acquainted with each teacher's testing style. Familiarizing themselves with the test format (multiple choice, short answer, essay, etc.) will help them strategize their preparation and feel more confident in how to tackle each type of question. Practicing with a similar format can reinforce exam readiness.
- Read Instructions Carefully: On the actual day of the test, students should, if possible, follow the common day-of-test advice: get a good night's sleep, eat a well-rounded breakfast, and arrive early. Once the test begins, it's important for students to read the directions thoroughly. This is an easy, but commonly skipped, part of test-taking. Students should always confirm that they understand what is being asked of them.
